Chigusa Yamazaki (Blue Seed)

 

Blue Seed (stylized as BLUE SEED) is a anime television series by Ashi Productions and Production I.G. released in 1994, based on Yuzo Takada's 1992 manga series of the same name.

The series follows agents of the Terrestrial Administration Center (TAC), an elite task force overseen by the Japanese government to combat monstrous creatures known as Aragami, who have recently been re-awakened by their guardian deity: Lord Susano-oh.

Biological Unit

The eighteenth episode of the series (ジーザス!! ガッデム!! 桜は未熟?!/Geez! Oh, Man! Sakura's Not Good Enough?) focuses on Sakura Yamazaki, who reveals that 16 years ago her mother Chigusa was consumed in battle against an Aragami named Nozuchi while protecting their village. Knowing that Lord Susano-oh has reawakened many of these creatures, Sakura looks forward to destroying Nozuchi to avenge her "weak" fallen mother.

Sakura's opportunity arrives sooner than expected when the resurrected Nozuchi appears in the city river. When Sakura and Momiji Fujimiya arrive at the scene of the attack, they are swallowed by the creature almost immediately. Inside Nozuchi's stomach, they find Sakura's mother, who reveals that she fused herself with Nozuchi using magic, and had managed to keep the monster asleep in the years that followed. Chigusa begs Sakura to destroy the magatama Mitama embedded in her chest using a special talisman card, though Sakura is reluctant. Finally working up the courage to do it, the talisman strikes the Mitama and Chigusa's soul is finally freed and Nozuchi is destroyed.
