Arc The Lad is a 26-episode anime series which aired from April to October of 1999. The series is based on the 1996 Sony video game Arc The Lad II, adapting and re-imagining parts of the game's story.

Biological Unit

The series' twelfth episode (White House) has the protagonist Elc entering the base of the mysterious White House organization after receiving brief telepathic messages from Meril, a childhood friend of his who had been abducted by the group many years ago. Elc follows Meril's messages through the complex, leading him to a large chamber at the heart of the facility.

In the following episode (Smiling Holy Mother), Elc is horrified to discover that Meril has become "The Holy Mother", a barely-sentient mutant bonded to a machine, and the one responsible for creating and birthing Chimera eggs. Elc becomes physically ill at the sight of what has become of his friend, and becomes even more disturbed to discover she still has the mentality of when she was a child. After spending several minuets talking with her, Elc decides to put Meril out of her misery and breaks her out of the machine, only to strangle her with his bare hands.
