Series Overview
B.P.R.D. is a spin-off of Mike Mignola's Hellboy comic series. While initially a series of back-up stories in the various Hellboy titles, B.P.R.D. received it's own miniseries in 2002 with a three-issue story entitled Hollow Earth, published from January to June of that year.
Biological Unit
The Hollow Earth series revolves around the B.P.R.D.'s search for a former member named Elizabeth Sherman, a human woman with the power of pyrokinesis. The team discovers that Elizabeth (who had fled to a monastery in the mountains of Russia to try and learn how to control her powers) has had her soul extracted from her body and placed into a giant machine underground, where her fiery spirit powers ancient weapons and technology. Following the trail of her captors ("mole-men" like creatures called The Servants of The Left Hand), the B.P.R.D. successfully save Elizabeth and place her soul back into her body.
