The second issue of the miniseries involves the character Magneto recruiting former X-Men member Wolverine to aid him in the search for his daughter, the Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff), who was abducted by members of The Council of Chosen several weeks earlier. It is revealed that the Council are using Wanda and her magic to power a machine called The Cataclysm Engine, which is responsible for a igniting a series of natural disasters around the world.

Eventually, Wolverine and his small team discover Wanda and the Cataclysm Engine in the ruins of the Hoover Dam in Nevada. After fighting members of Council, Wolverine rescues Wanda and destroys the machine, though Wanda later dies a few days later from her injuries sustained from being hooked up to the engine.
