Series Overview

Silver Surfer is an American comic book series published by Marvel Comics starring the character of the same name. A spin-off of Marvel's Fantastic Four series, the book's third volume began in 1987. The series follows the Silver Surfer as he travels through the Marvel Universe, encountering many alien creatures and cosmic beings.

Biological Unit

The twelfth issue of the third series ("Sick!"; March, 1988) features the titular Silver Surfer and his associate Nova (an Earthwoman named Frankie Raye who had been gifted The Power Cosmic by the giant planet-eating god known as Galactus) being used as the main source of power for Captain Reptyl's fleet of ships. As the Power Cosmic grants it's wielders the gift of immortality, Reptyl intends to use the two as living energy sources forever.

The machines Silver Surfer and Nova are held in induce sleepiness and nausea, which greatly reduce their chances of escape. Eventually, Nova is recused by a mind-controlled member of Captain Reptyl's crew named Clumsy Fowlup (who had tried to court her in the previous issue). Nova quickly regains her strength and rescues the Silver Surfer from the other ship.
